It’s the story that John Edwards wishes would die, but it just keeps coming back to haunt him. Little Frances Quinn Hunter, the child of his former mistress, filmmaker Rielle Hunter, has just celebrated her first birthday. A photo of the baby girl was released that makes it nearly impossible to deny that the fallen Democratic contender is the daddy. She is the spitting image of him! The National Enquirer is reporting that while Edwards publicly maintains that the child isn’t his, he has privately confessed the obvious to his wife Elizabeth, who is in the terminal stages of breast cancer. Sources say this was a strategic move on Edwards’ part to diffuse tension between him and Hunter over Elizabeth’s forthcoming memoir.

What’s the conventional wisdom on Beyonce? I don’t really care for her in interviews, but I like her music. She’s sort of like a more talented version of Jessica Simpson, right? Self-absorbed, not all that bright, but basically harmless?
This little piece of news has me doubting the “harmless” stuff. Beyonce announced to The Sun that First Lady Michelle Obama personally thanked her for being a role model to Sasha and Malia. Keep in mind - this did not come from an interview with Michelle Obama, so this is not some kind of semi-official message being sent by the President and the First Lady. Beyonce herself announced that she’s the Obama girls’ role model. Ugh.
First Lady Michelle Obama has thanked singer Beyonce for being a role model for her daughters.
The R&B star, 27, said the US President’s wife — mum to Malia, ten, and Sasha, seven — approached her the day before she sang at one of the inauguration balls.
Stunned Beyonce revealed: “She told me that she was very happy that her children had an artist like myself and — I don’t even feel right saying this - she said she was happy they had me to look up to.”

It's official: U.S. airlines lost 1.3 million fewer bags in 2008 compared to the year before. We ought to be rejoicing.
But look behind the figures. One reason why their track record has improved is because Americans are entrusting them less baggage to begin with. Last year, most of the major carriers started charging us to check luggage--$15 for the first one, and often $50 for the second one. How did Americans react? Quite sensibly, and in a way we should have years ago: We started packing less and carrying on more. Before the fees, the average was 1.2 bags per flyer. Now it's less than one bag per passenger.

Sunday, March 8 marks the start of another scam perpetrated on us by The Man. You remember The Man, the one who's always trying to keep you down? He's at it again, demanding you "spring forward" and move your watch an hour ahead. Not only will you lose an hour of sleep Sunday as Daylight Saving Time, or DST, starts by moving your clocks ahead an hour, but the myth fed to the public by Congress that the extra hour of daylight will save energy because the lights won't be on for an hour is wrong. If anything, it encourages people to use more energy by giving them more time to consume.
And to make the issue more of a headache, this is the third year that DST has been extended to such an early start date of the second Sunday in March and ends on the first Sunday in November. It's supposed to start in spring, and in much of America right now, where rain and snow are falling, it certainly doesn't feel like spring.

Damages has lived up to the hype. After a jaw-dropping debut season that garnered Glenn Close an Emmy and a Golden Globe for her turn as Patty Hewes, the FX legal drama roared back in January amid speculation regarding whether or not the unique storytelling techniques used in season one could be re-created again. The result? Eight episodes into the new season and Damages is as thrilling as ever. However, after learning that Patty is indeed the person being held at gunpoint in last week's final moments, it proved one thing - Patty isn't the only one in the hot seat. The creative team behind Damages should be sweating too.

We won't find the answer to this question on tonight's episode of Lost, but I've been wondering: who is the real bad guy in the Lost power struggle, Ben Linus or Charles Widmore?
On one hand, Ben has done so many evil things that it's hard to see him as a good guy, and killing John Locke last week was probably the ultimate proof that Ben-haters have to name him as the bad guy. But he has also helped the islanders at several points (though we still haven't found out if he's doing that for his own reasons), and is it possible that he killed Locke himself because Locke has to die but can't kill himself for some reason? It's going to be interesting to see Ben wake up from his nap on that bed and see Locke alive again (or will he be surprised)? -
